Biggest Loser

My company decided to do our own version of Biggest Loser and we started a couple of weeks ago. We all went over to one of the moving companies in town and got weighed in on a truck scale. A couple of companies have pledged to donate a pound of food for each pound that we lose. The local newspaper came out to do a story on us. Over the last two weeks the story was picked up by the official Biggest Loser people. They sent a crew to Lexingtgon today to do a story on us. I think it's going to be just a minute or two, but it will air on February 17.

It's exciting to be on national television, but maybe not so much if the reason for it is the fact that I need to lose weight!

Inauguration Day

Will this be one of those days that you always remember where you were?

Dominic had a dentist appointment at 11am today, so I watched most of the inauguration at the dentist's office. They have video games there that the kids can play after their appointment and next to those is a TV. I let Dominic play long enough that I made sure I got to see President Obama being sworn in. Actually, during the actual oath of office I made Dominic pause his game and watch. I don't know that he is old enough that he will remember this day, but I wanted the possibility to be there.

We also happened to be watching when he signed some of the initial documents (I can't remember what they were) and I was excited to see that President Obama is left-handed. I pointed it out to Dominic who is also a leftie. (According to the commentator the last 4 presidents have all been left-handed.)

As for the dentist appointment itself, Dominic did well. He had a small cavity and had to get a filling. He didn't react well to having his mouth numb and kept trying to bite his tongue and his cheek. When the dentist let him pick something from the treasure chest, Dominic decided there wasn't anything good in there. The dentist walked away briefly and came back with a stuffed panda bear which actually turned out to be a Webkin. I wish dentists had given out things like that when I was a kid! Finally!

The fever seems to be gone! We had no fever all day. The cough is still there. Last night was rough with Dominic waking due to the cough and I can hear him in the other room coughing as I type. Hopefully the cough will be gone soon too.

How long?

How long can one illness last? Dominic is still sick. Temperature tonight was as high as 101. He's still coughing a lot. He's also sleeping a lot. This afternoon after I picked him up from Dave's he actually told me how tired he was. This from a child who hasn't regularly napped since at least the summer! He napped this afternoon and still fell asleep around 7pm. Thankfully he ate a little bit more today but still not as much as he should. Assuming the fever is still there tomorrow I'll be calling the pediatrician again.

Sick boy update

The pediatrician's office called this morning - the chest x-ray was clear. So no real answer as to what he has, we just know what he doesn't have. Apparently this is just some virus that will hopefully run it's course soon. The fever is pretty much down today (although a few minutes ago it was at 99.9) and he is eating again. He's even up playing a little and not just sitting on the couch watching cartoons.

Still sick

Dominic seemed to be doing better yesterday, his fever was down. His cough was still pretty rough, but he seemed to be on the upswing. He spent the night with Dave and apparently was up coughing most of the night. Dave took him to school this morning and I got a call around 11am saying that his fever was back up to 101. I picked him up and got him an appointment with the pediatrician.

When we went to the doctor's office we were first seen by a resident. There was no strep, no ear infection, and lungs sounded pretty ok, so it appeared to be viral. But the resident said that Dominic seemed "more sick that just a normal sick kid" and wanted Dr. Lear to take a look at him as well. So Dr. Lear came in, took another look, and agreed with the resident's assessment. Since the cough is so horrid and this fever will just not go away she sent Dominic for a chest x-ray. Of course, by the time that was done it was 4pm so we didn't hear anything back today.

Poor thing has barely been able to stay awake today. He told me he was too tired to even eat. It's been a chore to get him to consume anything today. He had 1 piece of sausage for breakfast, two bites of hamburger for lunch, a bite of chicken nugget and one small piece of mandarin orange for dinner. I finally offered him a cookie figuring that at this point calories are calories and I don't really care how he gets them. He's lost at least 2lbs this week, maybe more.

Please say some prayers that Dominic will get better quickly! And while you're at it pray that I don't come down with this as well!
