Well, it really is old news now, but Dominic had his TV debut last Thursday. Some lunatic woman who lives pretty much kitty-corner to us decided to fake a hostage situation that brought in a SWAT team and a bunch of snipers along with what had to be most of the Nicholasville Police Department and the Jessamine County sheriff's Department. After it was over I went outside to talk to some neighbors to find out what was going on. At that point I knew nothing other than the bit I had seen out the window. Well, a cameraman from the local NBC affiliate was out and about and came over and asked me some questions while I was holding Dominic. We ended up on the noon news! I do, of course, have the tape so if you come visit we'll be glad to show it off. (For those interested, the story can be read at http://www.jessaminejournal.com/PageDisplayer.cfm?Page=Article&Mode=FullArticle&CategoryID=E41CA5F8-F1BC-49F9-89E4-EA36870FA350&ArticleID=D9A1275C-F836-4CD8-8D61-BCBC8C9EA537)
In other Dominic news, he had a visit from his Grandma Sandee this weekend and they had a wonderful time together. He also had his first experience at Gymboree for a friend's first birthday party...he hated it! That might be a bit of an exaggeration...he did enjoy the many balls, but most of the other things there just scared him.
I'm sure there is so much more I could tell you all but I wouldn't even know where to begin. I'll try to update more regularly and will definitely make it a priority to get at least one more posting in before we leave for Michigan next week.

Hide and seek

Today Dominic decided to play a new game...hide and seek. For those of you who have been to our house you know that the cabinets in our entertainment center serve as toy storage space. Today Dominic pulled most of the toys out and proceeded to get into the cupboard. He then looked at me, said "Bye bye" and tried to shut the door. It really was a hysterical sight!
Other than "bye bye" his favorite words are "ball" and "dog". Right now he is at an age where anything round is "ball" and anything with four legs and a tail is "dog". The other day I brought a stray kitten into the house while I looked for its owner. Dominic kept pointing at it calling it "dog". No matter how many times I pointed back and called it "kitty", he kept insisting it was "dog".
He also has great word recognition. He has an animal puzzle that we were playing with today. If I tell him to point to an animal, he can usually do so. Today I told him to show me the horsie and he walked over, grabbed his rocking horse, and slid it across the floor to me.
We apologize for not writing more, but right now my work is feast or famine, and last week was feast! Here's hoping that this week is not famine.
August will also be a busy time for us. On top of celebrating Dave's birthday, Dominic is looking forward to a visit from Grandma Sandee and a trip to Michigan for Auntie Meg's wedding, with stops to see Grandma & Grandpa E. and Uncle Doug. Hopefully Uncle Jeffy and Aunt Teresa will be free for a visit with us as well!
Please remember to check in with us from time to time to let us know what you are doing. You can feel free to comment here on the blog or to send us an email.

Correlle does break!
Well, tonight after dinner (which for Dominic consisted of a little bit of chicken and a lot of corn) we let Dominic have one of his Tofutti Cuties. For those who don't know, a Tofutti Cutie is an ice cream sandwich made with soy ice cream and containing no milk (perfect for Dominic because of his allergies). He gets his Cuties usually on a small Corelle plate because I have to cut it into pieces for him and the chocolate from the sandwich part is quite messy. Today he had finished his Cutie and was using a graham cracker to scrape off the chocolate that was sticking to the plate. I guess he got bored with this because he threw his (supposedly unbreakable) plate onto the floor. Let me just say that not only does Correlle break, it shatters like no other dish I have ever seen! Needless to say Dominic will not be using any more Correlle!
In other Dominic news, he got his ride-on toy to go forward for the first time today. (Up to this point he only knew how to make it go backwards!) Of course, to do this he pretty much stands up and walks while straddling it, but it's still progress.

Legos

Today's big milestone was when Dominic actually started putting his Legos together properly. He's been enjoying them for a while now, but today was actually able to get them onto the little Lego base and connect them. He hasn't perfected this skill but certainly is trying.
In other Dominic news, he is starting to try to walk up the stairs instead of crawling up them. This is really scary for me, because he is a lot more unsteady this way. Now we have to be extra vigilant about putting the gate up. He's also figuring out how to get into more things as he gets taller. Today while I was on the phone, he managed to grab the package of graham crackers off of the table and help himself to a little snack! It was cute, but left crumbs all over the kitchen floor that I had just swept!
Dominic has also taken to "mowing the carpet." Special thanks to Uncle Doug who got him a lawnmower for his birthday. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to get a picture of him doing this yet, but hope to be able to soon.
Finally, I want to use the last part of this to give special congratulations to Meg Gustafson who just called me to let me know she is getting married next month! Meg...as I told you tonight, I am thrilled beyond words and can't wait to meet Brian!

Where to start?
Hi everyone! I thought it might be fun to start a blog to keep friends and family updated about our lives - especially about Dominic since we know he's everyone's favorite! I'll write about any noteworthy events that happen and share cute little anecdotes. I promise to do my best to keep this up to date, but please forgive me if I get behind!
Today I'll just leave you with a link to pictures. Many of you have received this already, but just in case you haven't you can take a look. http://www.kodakgallery.com/I.jsp?c=3k7h03e1.6qc0czf9&x=1&y=fh6bgt
Also, for anyone keeping track who doesn't know already, Dominic is currently 32 inches (75th percentile) and 23lbs (25th percentile).
